Harrowing moment Ukrainian soldiers 'shot dead' as they surrendered in 'brutal war crime'

Ukrainian outlet Deep State said the slain soldiers were from the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade or a “related unit”.

The channel said: “The Russians are freaks. They understand only force and only when they are treated the way they are treated. It is a difficult task to motivate the enemy to stop doing this, because anyone can be captured.”

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office said on Monday that prosecutors in the country’s Donetsk region were investigating the incident on the grounds of violation of the customs of war and premeditated murder.

“The aggressor state’s military deliberately killed unarmed and wounded Ukrainian soldiers, ignoring the norms of international humanitarian law,” the statement said.

Defence analyst Lt. Col. Stuart Crawford said: “The Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War is quite clear on this. Members of the armed forces who have laid down their arms or who have been rendered incapable of continuing fighting due to wounds, sickness, or other circumstances are to be treated humanely.

“They should not be subject to murder, torture, or cruel treatment. If the killing of Ukrainian surrendered personnel as alleged has taken place, then this is a criminal act and a war crime. Those responsible should face the full consequences of their actions when circumstances allow.”
