A 16-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was shot dead in front of her daughter in east London.
Lianne Gordon was tragically killed in the attack in Hackney on Tuesday evening and a 20-year-old man and 16-year-old boy also suffered gunshot wounds, but have since been discharged from hospital. Eyewitnesses claimed that she was “protecting someone else” from the alleged attacker.
The Metropolitan Police said a 16-year-old youth was detained in the early hours of Friday morning and remains in custody in connection with the death of the “beautiful” 42-year-old mum, as heartbroken neighbours have paid tribute to her.
Detective Chief Inspector Jo Yorke, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “While this arrest marks a significant development in this investigation, I would like to reiterate my appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
“I have a team of dedicated and experienced officers working tirelessly to ensure Lianne’s family and friends get the answers they so desperately need; if you can help then please get in touch.”
Neighbours have claimed that the tragic mum was protecting someone when the tragic attack took place. One neighbour, named only as Mahir, told the Evening Standard: “She was very nice lady, very. We are devastated. She was trying to protect someone, that what we heard. She was not the target.”
Another neighbour paid tribute to Lianne, calling her a “nice lady” who was a “very protective mother”. Linda Ledeatte, 68, told MyLondon: “She was lovely, she was nice. It’s a shock to be honest. I heard something like that happening. “She was bubbly, outgoing. My daughter went to school with her. They were very close, my daughter. She was a very very nice lady.”
