The reappearance of one particular Greggs pastry marks the beginning of Christmas for fans of the Geordie baker – regardless, it appears, of how prematurely it lands. Greggs has entered full festive spirit with its Christmas cups now available alongside fresh additions to its seasonal favourites collection.
Among these is one tradition that consistently receives an enthusiastic reception – the festive bake. And this year it’s proving more sought-after than ever before. Greggs has just revealed that an unprecedented sales record was shattered within merely 24 hours following the return of the crispy-topped pastry, reports Chronicle Live.
On its debut day of sale – a fortnight earlier than in previous years – the festive bake was eagerly purchased by ravenous crowds.
The bake, which features a combination of chicken, ham hock, bacon, cheese and spiced pork stuffing in a sage and cranberry sauce – has established itself as a firm favourite throughout its 17-year existence, and its reintroduction on Thursday – over two months ahead of Christmas – saw it instantly establish a fresh single-day sales record, shifting more units in that single day than on any other since its launch.
The company now believes it’s on track to sell greater quantities than ever during its complete seasonal run. Zoe Harris, customer director at Greggs, said: “We know the festive bake has a huge following, but this launch has been something else.”
“We brought it back two weeks earlier than ever before because we know people are ready to start feeling festive sooner and, in just 24 hours, they proved us right.
“To see the biggest day of festive bake sales ever is incredible. This record-breaking start means it could be our biggest festive bake season yet.”
The chain confirms the puff pastry bake, featuring its signature crunchy crumb topping, has been “fine-tuned for 2026”.
It sits as a standout item within a seasonal range that also boasts ‘pigs-under-blankets’ toasties; pepperoni pizza with hot honey; a festive feast baguette; festive flatbread and sweet mince pie roll.
Rounding off the selection are three new sweet treats alongside a variety of seasonal drinks.
