Grease will ‘melt away’ from kitchen cabinets with 75p cleaning staple

Keep your kitchen cabinets clean with this easy cleaning hack.

It might seem like one of the easiest kitchen cleaning jobs, but keeping your cabinets sparkling can be challenging. Airborne particles released during cooking can coat the surfaces with a thin layer of grease that can’t be easily wiped away.

The problem with greasy cabinets is most noticeable if you have cabinets above your counters. They tend to be cleaned less often because they require a ladder to reach the very top. It’s also more of a problem on any cabinets that are close to your stove, as the particles stick to the first surface they find.

But if you’re looking to refresh your kitchen cabinets and want to get rid of the grease, then look no further. Cleaning fans on Reddit have come up with the perfect solution – and all you need is one common cleaning product you should already own.

The hack was shared after one woman said she was having a yearly inspection of her rental flat and wanted to clean the yellow grease marks off her white cabinet doors.

She wrote: “Apartment people came in for a yearly inspection and told us to clean the grease off the cabinets. What’s the best/easiest way to go about it? It’s hard to see, but there’s also a yellow hue on the cabinet doors.”

Several cleaning enthusiasts flocked to the comments section to give their advice. One of the most popular recommendations was to use washing up liquid and water to get rid of the grease. This is because the soap we use to clean our dishes is known to be effective at cutting through the grease on our plates and frying pans – and it can do the same on your cabinets.

One person said: “I’d go over once with dish soap. Get a bucket of really warm soapy water and a non-abrasive scrubby. Wipe off with a microfibre cloth. Do one at a time. They should be spotless at the end.”

Another added: “Soft scrub brush and a bit of dish soap in hot water. Or lots of soft rags, whatever you prefer. Call friends while you work. Makes it go faster.”

While someone else suggested using “hot vinegar”. They claimed they warm up some white vinegar in a plastic container in the microwave, and then use a cloth to wipe down their cabinets.

They said: “I pour plain white vinegar into a glass or plastic container, heat it in the microwave. I use rubber gloves and dip a cleaning cloth into it and squeeze it out. No need to rinse, and it’s non-toxic. Bonus, the vinegar steam in the microwave makes it easy to wipe down your microwave as well. I use hot vinegar to wipe down most appliances and surfaces in my kitchen.”
