Gordon Ramsay has a secret cooking technique for how to ‘perfectly’ flip a pancake

Nothing is better than a crispy pancake with a generous amount of toppings – but many can be put off making them as they are a pain to flip over when cooking.

Flipping pancakes the wrong way can lead to soggy misshapen pancakes and half-cooked batter stuck to the frying pan, which can feel impossible to wash off.

It can also be dangerous, as according to the NHS burns and scalds are more likely to occur on Pancake Day.

Luckily, Gordon Ramsay has shared on Facebook that there is a proper cooking technique for pancakes and that is it easy to achieve the perfect flip in no time.

In a video online, Gordon said: “Pancake Day, is one of the most exciting days in our household so I’m going to show you how to make the most amazing pancakes but have fun when flipping them.”

Gordon said: “Now for the exciting part, the moment we’ve all been waiting for, how to flip a pancake perfectly!”

All you need to do is tap the pan twice, which Gordon demonstrated by slamming the base of the pan onto the metal grids of his stove.

Then give the pancake a good shake, which will completely loosen the pancake batter and make sure it is not stuck to the pan. If the pancake has been cooked well, it should loosen easily.

Gordon then shimmied the pancake further down the pan so it was mostly to one side.

You need to make sure you know the proper hand motion, which is to “push away, and flip back up with your wrist” according to Gordon.

Simply push and flip, and the pancake will turn over easily. Then, cook the other side of the pancake for “literally 30 seconds” as it will already be “nice and crispy.”

The pancake is now ready and all you have to do is place it on a plate and counter and roll it up “nice and tight” to get traditional and delicious British pancakes.

Gordon said: “There you go, a beautiful crispy pancake. Happy flipping but most importantly, enjoy and be safe.”
