'Giggling' Duchess Sophie gets a shock as she meets half-naked student at royal event

Duchess Sophie was in for a shock as she was greeted by a half naked student during a royal engagement. The Duchess of Edinburgh visited the London College of Fashion today at their new East Bank campus in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The students were showing off some of their creations to mark London Fashion Week which comes to an end tomorrow.

But Sophie was in for a surprise when one student – named Filip Gesse – shared his creations with her. Wearing nothing but a nude coloured bodysuit, the Duchess was seen giggling as she greeted the fashion student.

Sophie became patron at the London College of Fashion in 2013, working with the institute on their Better Lives initiative in “rehaping the narrative of fashion”.

Sophie was also seen chatting to other students and admiring some of the other work featured in the display.

The Duchess, 59, who is married to Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest son Edward, was also seen giving the virtual try-on software a go as she trialled some of the unique outfits on offer.

Sophie sported a stylish navy button down dress for the occasion, paired with a black belt around the waist and her hair tied back in a neat bun.

She paired the dress with some navy heels and a light blue clutch-bag. Sharing some of the snaps from the day, the Royal Family’s official website said: “Today, The Duchess of Edinburgh, as Patron of the London College of Fashion (LCF), visited their new home in East Bank.

“LCF is a recognised global leader in fashion education with its annual February postgraduate showcase known throughout the industry as a glimpse into the future of fashion.

“Her Royal Highness viewed the Postgraduate Class of 2024 exhibition, showcasing the produce of courses including Fashion Artefact, Fashion Photography, and Costume Design for Performance. The Duchess also met students at the Digital Learning Lab, observing a digital garment fitting.”

Claudine Rousseau, Dean of LCF’s School of Design and Technology said: “We are delighted to have hosted HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh today at our new East Bank site to visit our Postgraduate Class of 2024 showcase. Her Royal Highness spent time meeting the students and hearing about the process and themes behind their collections, which was such an exciting opportunity for them to further showcase their work during London Fashion Week.

“The visit included a demonstration from our Digital Learning Lab team, a unique space where students can experiment with new technologies in their work and access expert advice.”
