Princess Kate visited the Sudbury Silk Mills in Sudbury, Suffolk, earlier this week and was seen sporting a rather charming letter necklace. Styled over the top of a plain black jumper and tweed style blazer, the necklace elevated the outfit, as well as being what we are assuming is a sentimental nod to her three children George, Charlotte and Louis.

The initial necklace, with the letters G, C and L, has been designed by Daniella Draper. The necklace costs upwards of £355 depending on the number of charms and chain length, but we’ve found an alternative for £270 less.

Shoppers wanting to copy Princess Kate’s style can shop a mini hanging letter name necklace at Abbott Lyon for £85. It also has the option of three different chain lengths and there is no extra cost on top of the chain for the charms.

The Daniella Draper necklace is higher quality, made from 9ct gold compared to the Abbott Lyon 18k gold plated stainless steel finish, however, Abbott Lyon say it is water, sweat and heat-resistant, as well as boasting an anti-tarnish protective coating.

Proving these claims, one person that has already worn the necklace said: “I have used it for two months now and it is still like new. I have worn it everyday and also in the sauna and shower”.

Abbott Lyon’s charm necklace would make an ideal gift for a loved one which is exactly what another shopper did, writing: “Beautifully crafted this was a present for my granddaughter’s 18th birthday she loves it.”

Someone else treated themselves, sharing: “So gorgeous. Absolutely love it and have had so many compliments.”

A five star reviewer styled theirs in a similar way to Princess Kate, writing: “Love this necklace! It feels like great quality and the letters are a lovely size, visible when wearing but not too big as to take over an outfit. It looks especially nice laid over a dark polo neck top. Will definitely buy again!”

However, it has been noted by one person that it is ‘much smaller’ than they were expecting. Alternatively, Edge of Ember stock a double initial necklace for £125. At Lily & Roo, the brand’s initial letter necklace is £129 and comes in gold, silver or white gold.
