Gardeners urged to 'avoid' using common hack to remove patio moss as it can cause 'damage'

Moss can be slippery and unsightly and can actually cause damage to hard surfaces if it’s left to grow.

If the weather has been particularly wet, moss will likely build up and get worse.

With this in mind, Tom Allen, the owner of TGA Concrete Pumping has shared how to remove moss from patios.

He told Express.co.uk: “A problem that most people with a garden will be familiar with is moss.

“It is a common problem in damp, shaded areas, making it a frequent guest between concrete slabs.

“Its presence can be exacerbated by heavy rainfall and persistent moisture.”

To get rid of moss, gardeners need to start by physically removing it with a stiff brush or scraper.

He then suggested applying a “moss-killing solution” that is safe for concrete surfaces.

Check the container label if you’re not sure how suitable it is for your patio.

He added: “Avoid using bleach, as it can damage the concrete, and instead, opt for a commercial moss killer or a mixture of water and white vinegar.”

There are a plethora of moss-killing solutions out there that can be bought from hardware stores.

Moss Killer Concentrate costs £38 from B&Q and Resolva Moss Killer Ready To Use costs £19.95 from Amazon.

White vinegar can be bought from most local supermarkets and online. Distilled vinegar costs 40p from Sainsbury’s and 35p from Tesco.

Gardeners can also banish moss from patios using laundry powder or bicarbonate of soda.
