Furious pensioner mows down man using mobility scooter in 'row over pasty'

A furious pensioner mowed down another man after he bought the last pasty from a local bakery in Devon. Extraordinary scenes erupted in Bideford as the row erupted following an incident at a business on Mill Street.

Eyewitness Oak Leigh described how she saw the angry customer “taking it out” on a few people when he realised that the last pasty from the bakery had been snapped up.

Ms Leigh quickly got out her phone to film the mayhem as the disagreement erupted, with the pensioner soon using his mobility scooter as a weapon.

She said: “They were arguing because he had the last pasty from the bakery and then bumped into him.

“He was taking it out on a few people there. After I got my phone out that [the incident] happened.”

Ms Leigh shared the footage she captured online, which showed the mobility scooter user holding his walking stick while he controlled the vehicle with his other hand.

In the background, a member of the public asks the pensioner if they “want help”.

After delivering an inaudible response, the man then appears to drive his scooter at the man, forcing him to fall over a sign.

Cops from Devon and Cornwall Police managed to identify the pensioner and soon after his mobility scooter was seized.

In the aftermath, one officer was forced to ride it back to the station.

In a post, Bideford Police said on its Facebook page: “Residents of Bideford may have seen this slightly unusual sight today!”

The force added: “And while we are an equal opportunity employer, no, we currently don’t have any plans to launch mobility scooter patrols.

“We attended an incident early today, which is related to a video currently circulating on social media. This led to us seizing a mobility scooter which one of our officers then had to ride back to the station!

“We have identified the owner but all other parties had already left prior to our arrival. We don’t currently have any victims that have come forward to us.”

“If you were involved in the incident and wish to report this to us, please call 101 and quote log number: 298 (12/12/23).”
