'Funky' seaside town just 55 minutes from London has houses for under £210k

Folkestone, a charming seaside town in Kent, “feels like a younger, fresher and cheaper version of Brighton”, The Sunday Times reported as it named Folkestone as one of the best places to live in the UK last year.

The town, once known as a “shabby old seaside resort”, has undergone a transformation thanks to well-planned regeneration. Now, it’s a “funky” spot that’s perfect for those who want to be near London but also enjoy the tranquillity of the southern coast.

Travelling from Folkestone is a breeze – a train ride to Kings Cross takes just 55 minutes, and you can reach Calais via the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle in 35 minutes; on a clear day, you can even see France!

One weekend you could be tasting craft beer in London, the next, sipping artisanal wine in France, but the town centre itself is brimming with entertainment options.

The seafront is a hub of creativity, with stunning art installations nestled between top-notch street food stalls, pubs and shops.
