The pharmacy giant has shut several branches recently as part of plans to reduce its portfolio from 2,200 locations to 1,900.

Customers in Kent, Wigan and Lancashire will all lose local branches this month, forcing them to make other arrangements for their medical needs.

In a notice to patients in the Leyland area of Lancashire, the Worden Medical Centre said: “Please be aware Boots is closing in January, you will need to find an alternative pharmacy to nominate for your prescriptions to be sent.”

The retailer confirmed that more stores will be axed in “early 2024”, though exact dates are yet to be released.
