Fried eggs will be ‘so flavourful’ if you add 1 ingredient to the pan

Eggs are always a popular breakfast choice, not just in the UK but all over the world. With so many different ways to prepare and enjoy them, there’s always a delicious new flavour or topping combination to discover.

Scrambled, poached and boiled eggs are delicious, but you really can’t beat a good fried egg with a golden yolk. If you’re keen to jazz it up a bit more, then there’s one cooking staple that you should add to the pan before cooking. The cooking pros at Sift and Simmer say that introducing sesame seeds to your fried eggs will give them a delicious crunch and a nutty flavour.

The seeds, which are often used in Asian cooking, provide the fried eggs with a beautifully crunchy base. And if you pair it with some chilli oil, you’ll add even more flavour, making it a delicious alternative for your usual breakfast or brunch.

All you need for this recipe is a few cupboard staple ingredients. When it comes to the sesame seeds, you can use either white or black ones, or a combination of both works well too.

Not only are these eggs great for breakfast — they’d also be delicious atop a rice or noodle dish you’ve prepared for dinner. Here’s how you can make them at home.

Sesame fried eggs

Ingredients

  • Two tablespoons sesame seeds
  • One teaspoon vegetable oil
  • Two large eggs
  • Chilli oil (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Method

Heat a frying pan over low-medium heat. Toss in sesame seeds and toast for about 30 seconds, then pour in the vegetable oil over the sesame seeds.

Crack eggs over the sesame seeds and cover the pan with a lid, leaving a small gap for steam to escape.

Let the eggs cook for around four to five minutes, or however long you want for your preferred texture.

Once the time is up, use a spatula to lift the eggs from the frying pan. Transfer them onto a plate and serve with more sesame seeds or chilli oil on top, with some salt and pepper to taste.
