The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls last week, including more than 979,000 Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, F-Super Duty, and SuperCab vehicles for a head restraint instruction issue.
Chrysler is also recalling over 80,000 of its 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles for a potential crankshaft failure issue and nearly 12,500 of its 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles for potential engine failure issues.

Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, F-Super Duty recall for improper head restraint instructions
Ford is recalling 979,797 of its vehicles, including certain 2018-2023 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator models that have third-row seating and 2019-2023 F-Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600 SuperCab vehicles along with three-passenger front bench seat regular cab models for not having instructions on how to adjust or remove certain head restraints in the owner’s manual, according to an NHSTA report.
Without the instructions, the vehicles do not comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 202, “Head Restraints.”
Ford plans to mail addendums to the owner’s manual that instructs on how to remove and adjust the vehicle head restraints for the center seating positions. The notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 10 and will be free of charge. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 23C20.

Jeep Grand Cherokee recall for engine shut down issue
Chrysler is also recalling 12,458 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles that have 2.0L PHEV engines for a potential engine shut down issue caused by a loss of communication between the vehicle’s transmission control module and the hybrid control processor.
Dealers will also update the control software free of charge, and notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners on July 28. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403 and FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 65A.

Chrysler recalls Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles for potential crankshaft position failure
In addition, Chrysler is recalling 80,629 2014-2019 Ram 1500 and 2014-2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles that have 3.0L diesel engines, citing an issue where the crankshaft position sensor tone wheel may delaminate, which could cause an engine stall, according to an NHSTA safety report.
Chrysler is having its dealers update the powertrain control module software to help maintain vehicle propulsion free of charge. Letters notifying owners about the recall are expected to be mailed on July 28, and owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is 66A and this recall is an expansion of recall 20V-475.

Ford recalls F-150 BEV vehicles for lightbar issue
Ford is recalling 16,375 select 2022-2023 F-150 BEV vehicles for a rear lightbar issue in which the lightbar may have microcracks in its outer lens, allowing moisture to collect which could result in out-of-order or flickering reverse lights, an NHSTA safety report states.
Dealers will replace the rear lightbar of the vehicle free of charge. Letters to owners are expected to be mailed on June 26, and owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The number for this recall is 23S30.

Hyundai recalls Palisade vehicles for brake assist issue
Hyundai is recalling 322 certain 2023 Palisade vehicles for a potential issue in which the brake booster diaphragm may become misaligned and cause an internal vacuum leak in the vehicle, potentially leading to a loss of power brake assist, according to an NHSTA report.
Hyundai dealers will inspect and replace the brake booster if necessary for free. Notification letters to owners are expected to be mailed on August 7, and vehicle owners can contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. The number for this recall is 245.

BMW recall for improperly welded front seat in 740i, 760i xDrive, and i7 xDrive60 vehicles
BMW issued a recall for 318 2023 740i, 760i xDrive, and i7 xDrive60 vehicles for a potential issue in which the front seat length adjustment system may not have been welded properly, leading to an increased risk of injury in a crash, according to an NHSTA report.
Dealers will inspect the front seats and replace the seat front structure and the seat length adjustment system for free if necessary. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners on July 31, and owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Nissan recalls Sentra vehicles for improperly sealed driver side cowl area
Nissan is recalling 230 2022 Sentra vehicles for a potential missing or improper seal in the driver’s side cowl area. This can allow water to leak inside the vehicle and corrode electrical components, which could lead to the failure of electrical systems such as the wiper motor function, exterior lighting, air bags, or shifting into gear without applying the brake pedal.
The failure of these systems could increase the risk of a crash and an electrical short-circuit could occur, potentially increasing the risk of a fire, an NHSTA report states.
Nissan is having dealers inspect and reseal the driver’s side cowl if necessary. If moisture or corrosion is found in the area, the main harness and engine room harness will be replaced in the vehicle for free. Notification letters are expected to be mailed to owners on July 26.
