You could be unwittingly irritating your flight attendant by doing these three things on your flight. Cabin crew member Barbara Bacilieri has divulged the “rude” passenger behaviours that particularly irk her during flights.
The influencer, known online as Barbie Bac, uploaded a clip to address common curiosities about her role as an air hostess. In a video for her 2.65 million YouTube followers, the 29-year-old woman tackled the common question: “What’s the weirdest thing passengers do?”
Barbara, who is from Argentina but lives in Spain, responded: “Trying to join the mile-high club or walking around barefoot.”
It may seem like a sexy idea, but the former could land you in hot water with the law for public indecency. And the latter isn’t a advisable either, as it’s a major hygiene hazard.
The aircraft floor is often not cleaned between flights, which means going shoeless could lead to unpleasant encounters, especially in the toilet.
For those who dislike restrictive shoes, it’s recommended to bring along flip flops for a blend of comfort and cleanliness.
These shoes will allow your feet to breathe without you risking an unfortunate encounter with a puddle you really hope is water.
As for the most annoying things passengers regularly do, Barbara said they all revolve around being “rude” to the cabin crew.
She listed her top pet peeves as: “Not listening to instructions, snapping fingers to get our attention, or being rude.”
Ignoring instructions is a serious mistake – crucial information such as the location of plane exits could be vital in an emergency, so you want to make sure you know what to do.
What’s more, it’s essential to remember that cabin crew members are also human. No matter the stress of travel, maintaining politeness on board is key.
Additionally, some passengers make unreasonable requests that Barbara simply can’t accommodate, which becomes particularly exasperating during hectic flights.
There are those who feel entitled to switch seats or upgrade to premium classes without prior payment, but these decisions are not within the purview of the flight attendants.
Barbara explained: “Only gate agents can do that, we can’t change your seat class once on board.”
Oh dear, it sounds like the flight attendant has her hands full quite often!
