Rikki Forthergill, bathroom style expert at online bathroom specialist Big Bathroom Shop, said: “From warmer colour palettes, mixed metal fittings and nature-inspired aesthetics through to hybrid styling of the old and new and even moving away from the traditional shower enclosures, 2024 is the year for change when it comes to re-vamping the bathroom.
“External factors such as the ongoing cost of living crisis are expected to influence the way people take on home improvements, resulting in a mix-and-match approach and the growing desire to make the home a sanctuary will mean relaxation is also at the forefront of design decisions.”
1. Cosy colours
According to the expert, next year will all be about bringing sophisticated warmth to the home including the bathroom.
Many people will be swapping clean-looking contrasts for creams, soft browns and rich colours.
The expert said: “These earthy-inspired palettes will turn your bathroom into a cocoon of peace; a perfect place to start and finish your day.”
2. Mixed metals
The bathroom pro noted: “Get ready to embrace bold combinations of bathroom hardware. Use a variety of brassware colours to complement and accentuate individuality.
“People will be leaning towards warmer metals, mixing brushed copper with brushed gold and other metallics.
“It is not a trend for the faint-hearted, but when done right, will produce a bathroom full of character.”
3. Built-in showers
In 2024 people will be moving away from exposed glass cube showers and move into the era of shower spaces built into the bathroom.
Rikki added: The conventional glass shower enclosure is still ideal for sectioning off the shower area without losing space and light, but people are becoming increasingly inventive by keeping their built-in showers well-lit and inviting with clever windows and spotlight installations.”
4. Nature
There’s an emerging trend of people embracing the natural elements, with many incorporating organic textures such as timber, stone and foliage.
The expert said: “These elemental accents will add to the visual allure of people’s bathrooms, and usher in a profound tactile opulence; resulting in an elevated design experience that tantalises the senses each day and night.
“This trend can be seen as an extension of that desire to create a sanctuary at home and the need for enhanced relaxation.”
5. Hybrid aesthetic
In what is expected to be an “interesting shift” for bathrooms in 2024, the hybrid aesthetics sees sleek features beside those that are rustic.
This includes ultra-modern vanities offset by reclaimed driftwood and new mirrors combined with vintage lighting.
Rikki added: “We will see this as people try to reduce the cost of home updates and choose to epicycle, another trend that has been up this year. This will likely result in a blended look that celebrates a mismatch of styles that are married by quality and purpose.”
