Fire horror as man escapes burning building only to die in second inferno days later

A survivor who escaped from a burning building alive has died only three days later in another housefire.

Residing in Saratov, Russia, the man made it out of a fire in his fourth-floor apartment with his life on January 23, but was killed by another blaze on January 26.

Local authorities have not released many details about the victim beyond his birth year – 1973 – and he remains unnamed. Currently, the incident is under investigation by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Russian-language broadcaster RTVi said “As a result of the emergency, a man born in 1973 died,” and added that a lit cigarette was believed to be responsible for the fatal fire.

It is not yet known whether the two fires took place at the same location.

Disaster struck on January 23 when the man’s mattress was set alight. Although he survived the incident, local authorities have not confirmed if he made it out of the crisis uninjured.

Only two days later, the man was tragically killed in another housefire believed to have been started by a lit cigarette.

Whilst the Saratov Federation Council have not released any information about the man, who remains anonymous, an RTVi broadcast confirmed that an investigation into the matter was ongoing.

RTVi reported that a “forensic medical examination has been ordered to establish the exact cause of the man’s death.”

Fire-related disasters have also hit the UK in recent weeks, with three electric buses bursting into flames in London this month.

Injuries as a result of fires are also on the rise, according to Home Office reports.

Fire injuries requiring hospital treatment rose by 12 percent last year, whilst the number of fire-related fatalities has risen every year since 2020.
