King Charles and Donald Trumpholding an official meeting may not happen anytime soon, according to a Royal Family expert, who has revealed what could happen when they do sit down together.
Rebecca English wrote for the Daily Mail there are “no immediate plans” for a state visit in the UK for the US president-elect, and the King will not be going to America for the inauguration, per convention.
She said: “An official meeting either here or there is more likely to happen, I understand, in 2026 – which sees events to mark the 250th anniversary of America’s independence.
“However, diplomats are acutely aware of the regard with which President Trump holds the British Royal Family and are keen to exploit this, with tea at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle should he wish to drop by the next time he is in Europe.”
If and when Trump does visit, it is believed that he will be going to Windsor Castle, not Buckingham Palace where renovations have been taking place since 2017.
Following a visit by the Amir of Qatar earlier this month, all state visits will take place at Windsor Castle until 2027. This will mean that Donald Trump won’t get a state banquet at the main royal residence in London.
The renovation’s are focused on replacing ageing cabling and plumbing that had not been updated since the 1950s and which were at risk of causing “catastrophic fire or flooding”.
This comes after Donald Trump met Prince William when both men attended the reopening ceremony of the Notre Dame in Paris earlier this month.
The pair also met afterwards at the British embassy for a private 30-minute meeting to discuss a range of global issues but focussed on the importance of the UK/US special relationship.
Kensington Palace said Trump had also shared some warm and fond memories with the prince about the late Queen for which the father-of-three was extremely grateful.
Trump went on to gush about the prince to reporters: “I had a great talk with the prince. He’s a good-looking guy. He looked really, very handsome last night. Some people look better in person? He looked great. He looked really nice, and I told him that.”
He also raised eyebrows by appearing to share details about the health of King Charles and Princess Kate, saying they were “doing well”.
Trump went on: “I asked him about his father and his father is fighting very hard, and he loves his father and he loves his wife, so it was sad.”
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace declined to comment on the remarks or on the health of Charles.
