Expert explains why Prince Harry and Meghan 'only work one hour a week'

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released the accounts for their Archwell Foundation this week.

One thing the 2022 accounts showed is that Prince Harry and Meghan, who are both directors of the foundation, worked an hour a week. However, a legal expert says there could be a reason for the time they spent on the philanthropic organisation, reports the Daily Star.

One legal expert has explained why this could be the case. Attorney Seth Perlman, partner of Perlman & Perlman LLP, previously told Newsweek that filings showing an average one hour working week are not unusual for directors of philanthropic organisations.

The time spent working is the same as shown in the 2021 Archwell accounts.

Perlman explained: “If you have four board meetings a year—that’s what directors do, they hold board meetings—then that turns into basically 12 hours a quarter. Which is, you know, a sufficient amount of time and a typical amount of time for board members to act.

“The position of directors is to establish the mission and the vision, make sure that they hire the right people to carry that out, determine the governance of the organisation, make sure that the financials are being properly overseen and make sure they fully understand the financials of the organisation and then, if they do make grants to approve those grants.”

The Archwell Foundation describes itself as an impact-driven global nonprofit that puts compassion into action; uplifting and uniting communities locally and globally; online and offline”.

It adds that the foundation’s “core purpose is, quite simply, to do good”.
