Exact time next snow bomb set to strike UK after arctic blast blanketed country

Britain is expected to experience additional days of severe freezing weather, with recent maps indicating another wave of snowfall hitting the country shortly after being impacted by an arctic blast.

Several parts of the country are already battling with power and travel chaos with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning of ice and snow for Friday and Saturday.

While the weather on Sunday is likely to stay dry and sunny, it will once again take a turn for the worse as snow makes a return on Monday (February 12).

Maps from WXCharts have turned purple for areas covering Wick to Manchester indicating a huge wall of snow coming towards these areas at the beginning of the coming week.

The wintry conditions will begin to set in at around 3 pm on Monday, maps suggest.

Areas around Inverness and Fort William are likely to witness 2-3cm of snow per hour, maps suggest. Parts of Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, and Edinburgh may also see some snow showers bringing in the icy conditions.

Temperature levels may fall as low as -4C in areas around Aberdeen in Scotland, maps have hinted.

The Met Office’s forecast during that period suggests: “Often cloudy through the period with showers or longer spells of rain. Some bright or sunny intervals developing, most likely on Tuesday. Breezy along the coasts with temperatures around average.”

Meanwhile, dozens of flood warnings and hundreds of flood alerts are also in place across parts of England.

Met Office’s Dan Stroud said: “We have had the worst of it but it’s still not completely clear. Where we have falling snow we see there is a risk of a few icy patches on roads. The focus is probably starting to shift more towards ice, people should still be cautious.”

It comes after a cold blast sent temperatures well below freezing in parts of the country and brought dozens of schools closures to northern areas of England and Wales on Thursday. Around 10cm (3.9in) of snow was recorded in Kirkwall, Scotland, while 9cm was seen in Bingley, West Yorkshire.

Today:

Wintry showers continuing in the far north, with a band of rain and mainly hill snow across central areas moving northwards through the day. Cloudier in the south with some showers, these locally heavy. Mild in the south, colder elsewhere.

Tonight:

Rain and hill snow persisting across north and east Scotland. Elsewhere, patchy cloudy with some showers or longer spells of rain. Fog patches may develop underneath the clearest spells.

Saturday:

Rain and some snow persisting in the far north, mostly over higher ground. Occasional brighter interludes in the south once any fog clears, with showers, these mostly in the west.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Often cloudy through the period with showers or longer spells of rain. Some bright or sunny intervals developing, most likely on Tuesday. Breezy along the coasts with temperatures around average.
