A man has spoken of the horrific abuse he faced at the hands of his foster mother and the heartbreaking fates of the other children in her care. Christopher Spry, 36, is the son of Eunice Spry, who served seven years in prison for 26 charges of child abuse against children in her foster care. Eunice forced three children in her care to eat their own excrement and vomit, rammed sticks down their throats, rubbed their faces with sandpaper, and locked two of them naked in a room for a month.
She also had two other children in her care at this time, one adopted daughter and one adopted son – Christopher’s younger brother Caleb – but these children did not experience the same kind of abuse. Instead, they were treated as very young children, with Christopher revealing that Caleb was unable to wash himself or tie his shoelaces even as a teenager.
Christopher recounted one particularly harrowing instance of abuse at the hands of Eunice, but hailed his eldest sister Alloma as his saviour.
He told The Sun: “Alloma’s job was to always mop up the injuries and keep us alive. She was the enforcer of the family who would also find clever ways to make sure we didn’t starve to death too.
“I was out in one of the sheds and Eunice basically hit me round the back of the head with a metal bar and knocked me out to a point where it looked as though I was dead. Then she just walked away.
“It was Alloma, literally beating the c**p out of me trying to get me to wake up, that brought me back round.”
In July last year, Alloma tragically passed away from organ failure. Christopher think that she might still be here if it wasn’t for he horrific conditions of her childhood.
He said: “If it wasn’t for Eunice, Alloma would still be here too. I think Alloma had come to terms with her past, but the damage was done. Even though, mentally she had moved on, physically her body couldn’t recover.
“Her organ failure was heavily related to her childhood. She had gone through some substance abuse issues.
“She had struggled with alcoholism but she hadn’t been drinking for years when she got sick. The doctor said that, due to her childhood, she had little chance of recovering.”
