Depraved body-in-the-suitcase killer Yostin Andres Mosquera has been jailed for life with a minimum 42 years to be spent behind bars. Mosquera, 35, was filmed singing and dancing seconds after slitting the throat of swimming instructor Albert Alfonso, 62, during an “extreme sex game” caught on camera. Hours earlier the porn star had battered Alfonso’s partner, handyman Paul Longworth, 71, to death with a hammer in order to steal from the couple.

Mosquera was staying at their flat in Shepherd’s Bush, London, when he slaughtered them both on July 8, 2024. He then decapitated and dismembered them with a saw over two days and then froze parts of their remains and took the rest in suitcases to Clifton Suspension Bridge, in Bristol. He was planning to throw the suitcases into the River Avon but was snared when a cyclist stopped to help, mistaking him for a lost tourist, before spotting blood dripping from the cases.

The substantial tariff came after the porn star was also handed 16 months for possessing “horrifying” indecent images and videos of children.

A jury at Woolwich Crown Court unanimously found Mosquera guilty of both murders earlier this year, and he was due to be sentenced for the slayings at the same court on Friday.

Sentencing him for the murders, Mr Justice Bennathan told the defendant: “Paul Longworth and Albert Alfonso were a settled, affectionate couple.

“It was their tragedy that you, Yostin Mosquera, came into their lives.

“I now have to sentence you for these premeditated and thoroughly wicked crimes.”

Mr Justice Bennathan earlier told the court that “unlawful child porn” was found on Mosquera’s laptop.

The defendant, who sat in the dock assisted by a Spanish interpreter, had earlier been jailed for for 16 months for his sickening cache of indecent images, with the judge telling him: “After you were arrested your laptop and other devices were seized.

“They were examined and in it were found at least 1,500 category A indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs, some of them moving images of children.

“They were very young children being subjected to a variety of sexual abuse really of horrifying detail and nature.”

The judge said the jail term for those offences will run concurrent to Mosquera’s sentence for the murders of Mr Alfonso and Mr Longworth.

Detective Chief Inspector Ollie Stride, who led the investigation, told reporters outside court: “This has been one of the most harrowing murders my team and I have ever investigated.

“The team have consumed hundreds of hours of footage, including watching the murder of Albert Alfonso numerous times. Those images will stay with all of us for a very long time.”

He added that the case has been “traumatic for all of my colleagues involved to work on”.

Mr Stride said Mr Alfonso and Mr Longworth were murdered “in the most brutal and callous of ways”.

“They had known one another for decades and were in a loving, caring relationship,” he told reporters.

“They did not deserve to have their lives taken away in the most traumatising of circumstances, in the privacy of their own home, where they had welcomed Mosquera in.

“The couple had opened their door to a man so evil he would take advantage of their lively spirits and generosity and murder them to satisfy his own gains.”

He said police have worked with the LGBT+ independent advisory group over the course of the investigation.

Mr Stride continued: “This sentence sees justice secured for the cold-blooded murder of two innocent men and has taken an evil and dangerous offender off the streets.”

Senior crown prosecutor Miranda Jollie said Mosquera “calculated every action” in the lead up to the attacks.

“Our thoughts remain today with everyone who knew Paul Longworth and Albert Alfonso,” she said outside court.

“Paul and Albert were taken from them in violent and brutal circumstances.

“It was clear that Yostin Mosquera planned and calculated every action in the lead up to the killings.

“This included the premeditated purchase of a chest freezer, internet searches on how to inflict fatal injuries, accessing financial documents, and accessing Albert’s bank account in the immediate aftermath of the attack.”

Mosquera repeatedly stabbed Mr Alfonso, who suffered injuries to his torso, face and neck, while Mr Longworth was attacked with a hammer on the back of his head and his skull was shattered.

Mr Alfonso enjoyed “extreme sex” and Mosquera, a Colombian national he met online years earlier, was part of that world.

Mr Alfonso was stabbed during a filmed session, with footage played in court showing Mosquera asking “do you like it?” and also singing and dancing after the attack. Seconds later he went on a computer to try to steal from his victims’ bank accounts.

Deanna Heer KC, prosecuting, told the court Mosquera’s plan had been to throw the suitcases off the bridge to dispose of the remains after the “calculated” and “premeditated” killings. He admitted killing Mr Alfonso but claimed it was manslaughter by reason of loss of control.

He pleaded not guilty to murdering both men and claimed Mr Alfonso killed Mr Longworth, telling the jury he believed he was about to be killed when he stabbed Mr Alfonso. He said he felt intimidated and that threats had been made to his family in Colombia.

Computer searches for the phrase “where on the head is a knock fatal?” were made on the day the couple were killed, and the jury was told the defendant made repeated searches to find a freezer in the lead up to the attacks.

On July 10, Mosquera was driven to Bristol and told a cyclist who spotted him on the bridge with a large red suitcase and a silver trunk that they contained car parts.

Bridge staff noticed something appeared to be leaking from the red suitcase which Mosquera told them was oil.

When they shone their torches on the suitcases, he fled.
