Eurovision Song Contest commentator Rylan Clark reveals 'secret sister' as fans 'feel old'

Rylan Clark revealed his “secret sister” during his Eurovision Song Contest commentary for the second semi-final. The This Morning host joked that he and 2014 winner Conchita Wurst were related, as the show aired a clip of her performing her winning track, Rise Like The Pheonix.

Fans were loving it and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their reactions. @Lpool_5843 laughed: “Rylan on Conchita: ‘Oh look it’s my sister’.”

@ChrisgeenaD also found it hilarious commentating: “When Rylan said Conchita was his sister. #Eurovision2024 #Eurovision2024 #Eurovision,” alongside a well known meme of Ray Liotta from Goodfellas laughing.

@shahanshahan also got a chuckle out of it giggling: “Rylan referring to Conchita Wurst as his sister #Eurovision2024 #Eurovision #bbceurovision.”

@sepetaj joked: “Time for my annual ‘i used to think conchita and rylan were the same person when i was a child’ tweet.” Meanwhile, the flashback clips had a different effect on some fans. @HywelKennedy chimed in: “God Rylan telling us Conchita won 10 years ago has made me feel ancient. #Eurovision2024.”

Rylan was recently photographed with Conchita’s alter ego Thomas Neuwirth alongside Ireland’s Eurovision hopeful Bambi Thug as they all attended the 50th anniversary celebrations of ABBA’s Waterloo win at ABBA Voyage.

Thomas’s Conchita won Eurovision a decade ago for Austria with the song Rise Like a Phoenix.

Having performed in a dress with a full beard, he later had to clarify that he was not trans.

Rylan’s remarks came after Eurovision fans raved about his commentary alongside Scott Mills during the Tuesday night semi-final.

One moment that particularly endeared them to viewers was their introduction of Australia, who failed to qualify for the final. In keeping with what has become an annual tradition they managed to include a reference to Oz sitcom Kath and Kim.

“You will gasp when you see the size of that didgeridoo when it comes up,” they said. “It’s huge.”

The pair won’t be commentating on the main event on Saturday night however as that honour rests with Graham Norton.

The Eurovision Song Contest will broadcast live on BBC One at 8pm on Saturday 11 May.
