Eurovision 2024: UK dealt another crushing blow as Ireland's odds also take a hit

Eurovision 2024 is tipped to be another unsuccessful competition for the UK, as Britain’s odds have taken a blow following last night’s semi-finals. Ireland’s odds have also taken a hit, despite being in a more comfortable position.

This year, the UK is being represented by Olly Alexander who will perform his song Dizzy during Saturday’s live final. Meanwhile, Ireland’s act Bambie Thug will give a performance of their track Doomsday Blue.

According to Ladbrokes, Croatia leads the way in the betting by some distance with their act Baby Lasagna and song Rim Tim Tagi Dim. Meanwhile, the UK are way back at 66/1.

In fact, the bookies now have the UK priced at just 5/1 to finish in last place, while the odds are 16/1 for another night of nil points. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It looks like it’ll be yet another disappointing Eurovision year for the UK, with Olly Alexander now just 12/1 for a nil point night.”

Ireland’s odds have also taken a blow following Tuesday night’s semi-final performance. Yesterday, they had a shot of 9/1, but now Bambie Thug is only at 16/1 to go all the way.

Alex added: “Ireland’s chances of winning have taken a slight hit, with Croatia already beginning to pull away as clear favourites to win in Sweden.”

While Croatia leads with even-money odds, Switzerland’s act Nemo is currently tipped for second place with odds of winning 10/3.

Italy’s entry, La Noia Angelina Mango, is sitting at 6/1, while alyona alyona & Jerry Heil from Ukraine have odds of 10/1.

Speaking about his semi-final performance last night and the upcoming Eurovision finals this weekend, Olly expressed his excitement on today’s Lorraine.

Addressing ITV host Lorraine Kelly, he said: “It’s such a huge thing. It’s massive.”

He then admitted: “This whole Eurovision experience is wild. Last night was amazing.

“It was the first time performing in the arena and on TV. It was just… yeah, it was amazing.”

The 2024 final of the Eurovision Song Contest airs this Saturday at 8pm on BBC One.
