Escape to the Country star issues desperate plea to BBC bosses over show shake-up

Escape to the Country’s Sonali Shah has issued a plea to BBC showrunners following its celebrity spin-off’s success. The broadcaster appeared on Morning Live earlier this year to reveal she wants another commissioned by bosses.

Late last year, Celebrity Escape to the Country aired on BBC One. The premise saw property experts helping famous faces such as Dr Ranj and Strictly Come Dancing’s Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec bag their dream rural abodes.

In February, presenter Sonali, 43, appeared on Morning Live and opened up about her time fronting the project. When asked by host Michelle Ackerley what it was like working with Janette, 40, and her 34-year-old husband the presenter said: “They’re huge fans of Escape to the Country and both of them are so naughty and you just want to be their best friend.

“Because they already love the show they’ve already made the move to somewhere more rural but they want to now plant their roots and buy. We got involved and they were showing me around Cheshire,” she confessed.

“It’s really worth catching up on that show and the rest of the episodes.” Meanwhile, Sonali pleaded with BBC bosses live on air and asked them to commission another Celebrity Escape to the Country season.

During her appearance on the mid-morning mainstay, the Magic FM presenter said: “I really want to make another show of the celebrity edition because it just goes to show everyone can do with a little bit of extra help.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, the mum-of-two went on to say that admit that Escape to the Country researchers and editors enjoy “clipping up” bloopers of her before revealing her “secret weapon”.

“I have a bit of a potty mouth – that’s actually my secret weapon,” she revealed.

“If I say something I don’t want being put into the final edit I’ll just say a naughty word at the end and I know it’ll never make the cut.”

Sonali has been a core presenter on the BBC programme since 2014 and has also starred in spin-offs Escape to the Perfect Town and I Escaped to the Country.
