He’s best known for his business empire which now encompasses X, Tesla and SpaceX. But now, it appears Elon Musk is broadening his commercial reach – and it has left many Americans with one burning question.
Following his involvement in the DOGE department of the US government, which seemingly concluded in a bitter feud with Donald Trump, the 54-year-old appears to have moved on. The rift between Musk and Trump over the president’s Big Beautiful Bill reportedly cost the former an eye-watering $20billion, whilst his backers bore losses five times greater.
Musk appears to have experienced the harsh impact of the legislation – which cuts government subsidies for renewable energy and electric vehicles. Nevertheless, it appears he now has fresh ventures in his sights.
“Why in the world is Elon Musk opening a Tesla restaurant?” questioned tech specialist Nathan Espinoza in a TikTok video uploaded yesterday (July 21) as he showcased clips of the dining establishment. “Today, Tesla opened it first ever restaurant in Los Angeles and Elon Musk is putting the fries in the bag,” Nathan revealed.
The venue, which also features a drive-in facility, welcomed its inaugural customers in Hollywood for the first time at 4:20pm that day, with devotees of the tycoon queuing outside in hopes of being amongst the first patrons.
Musk holds a particular fondness for the number 420 and uses it regularly, explaining the restaurant’s distinctive opening hour.
The establishment operates “24/7”, according to the restaurant’s official website, meanwhile. “It’s a retro-style drive-in cinema/supercharger with a full-on restaurant that serves burgers, milkshakes and popcorn,” Nathan continued in his clip, displaying the enormous queue of punters gathered outside.
“The one thing I want to know, which nobody seems to be talking about is whether the food is good or not,” he went on to say. “That’s what matters here,” he added, admitting he’s yet to sample Tesla’s cuisine himself.
Of course, the diner is packed with all the latest Tesla tech you would expect – most notably featuring the humanoid robot, Optimus, which dishes out popcorn, alongside numerous Tesla-branded goods available for purchase.
Posting on X, one Tesla fan who has already dined at the restaurant shared its complete menu, which includes a ‘Tesla burger’, frankfurter, diner club, tuna melt, fried chicken and waffles and grilled cheese alongside various round-the-clock breakfast choices, accompaniments and puddings. A children’s menu is also available.
“They are giving out drinks and ice cream as well,” the customer revealed during their visit.
Another individual shared an image of the burger, neatly presented in a Tesla-shaped container. “Tesla Diner menu just dropped!” they wrote. “From Wagyu chili fries to $13 burgers, open 24/7. Elon’s diner isn’t just serving food, it’s serving vibes.”
According to the diner’s website, it accommodates 250 diners and houses 80 supercharger bays. “Diner of the future,” the site declares. “Situated in Hollywood, California, Tesla Diner is a unique blend of a Supercharging station, quintessential American diner and drive-in experience. With its retro-futuristic aesthetic, this spot provides both Tesla and non-Tesla drivers with charging facilities along the iconic Route 66 highway.”
The site continues: “Our two-tiered eatery offers round-the-clock dining, ensuring you can grab a bite whenever you need to power up. Our elevated Skypad offers panoramic city views or megascreen entertainment as you recharge. Orders can be placed ahead of time or upon arrival via your vehicle’s touchscreen, or you can opt to dine indoors.
“Enjoy films and exclusive content on either of our two 66-foot LED megascreens. Watch from the comfort of our Skypad or directly from your Tesla vehicle cabin using the Tesla Diner app. To discover what’s showing next, simply refer to your Tesla vehicle’s touchscreen.”
