EasyJet to launch new flight between major UK airport and popular Spanish holiday hotspot | Travel News | Travel

British budget airline easyJet has announced it will launch eight new international connections between Spain and a UK airport which handled an impressive 15.8 million passengers last year, making it one of the UK’s top transport hubs. The new route will connect the popular holiday hotspot of Malaga on the south coast of Spain with Edinburgh Airport in Scotland, operating twice a week.

Starting from October 28, the Malaga-Edinburgh route will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The budget airline already has numerous connections with the UK and its major airports, with flights to Bristol, Leeds, Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, Southend, Birmingham and Liverpool, as well as Belfast and Glasgow. In the wider region, easyJet also already flies from Malaga to Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Nice, Zurich, and even Marrakech and Rabat in Morocco.

The airline has also said it will offer two new flights a week from Amería Airport to Liverpool and will add six more flights from Barcelona and Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands from October.

These new routes will add over 110,000 seats, where travellers can “discover new European cities with direct, comfortable, and affordable flights,” an easyJet spokesperson said.

This news comes as the airline already revealed five new flight destinations late last month, with 22 new routes from 12 UK airports. People travelling from Manchester Airport will now be able to catch a flight to Izmir in Turkey, as well as Kalamata in Greece, Larnaca in Cyprus, Madrid in Spain and Rennes in France. The airline’s first flights from Manchester Airport to Izmir and Madrid already took flight on Monday, June 23.

Elsewhere, plane passengers heading abroad this summer with easyJet, or other airlines like Ryanair, TUI and Jet2 are being warned of a new four-hour rule ahead of their holidays following a decision by the EU. The timeframe for claiming compensation for a delayed flight has now been increased after 12 years of discussions.

It has now been agreed that compensation claims for short-haul flights can only be made after a delay of four hours or more. This figure was previously three hours. Meanwhile, long-haul travellers will need to be delayed by six or more hours before making a redressal. The cause of the delay also impacts the amount of compensation people receive.

Meanwhile, these airlines have also introduced new rules for passenger cabin bags this summer. It means carry-on bags for flights will be guaranteed to be free of charge if they fit into a 40x30x15cm space, which means it will be able to fit under the seat in front as a personal item.
