Easiest way to remove hard water stains only costs 91p – lifts limescale in seconds

Spring is a time when many people are deep cleaning their homes, but one chore many people put off is cleaning the bathroom of hard water stains, also known as limescale.

Limescale is a harmless substance made up of water minerals but will appear as a filmy white residue on sinks, showers and bathtubs. It can even appear as foggy patches on shower glass or tap faucets.

It can be frustrating to remove limescale as it builds over time and is known to stubbornly stick to surfaces, but luckily you can easily remove it from anything in your bathroom using only baking paper.

Sidney Raz (@sidneyraz) is a dad who posts life hacks on social media, was recently amazed to discover this cleaning method, as it only takes seconds to do and leaves surfaces sparkling.

In a video on TikTok, Sidney said: “Here’s something I didn’t know until I was in my thirties, [baking] paper can clean faucets?”

Petya Holevich, a cleaning expert from Fantastic Services, has also confirmed that baking paper is a simple way to remove limescale from surfaces.

In an interview with Idea Home, Petya said: “Hard water stains are usually caused by mineral build-up on stainless-steel hardware.

“One item that’s ideal for cleaning water stains is wax or baking paper, which is a moisture-proof paper that is covered in paraffin wax and can repel water.

“It’s the wax or silicone that leaves behind an invisible film that repels not only watermarks but also fingerprints. That’s why these products work exceptionally well in removing watermarks.”

At the supermarket Aldi, greaseproof baking paper only costs £0.91 while most hard water stain removers can cost between £9.99 and £19.99 on Amazon, making this a cheap cleaning tip which can save you money.
