Eagle-eyed fans spot Prince William is wearing different outfit from wedding in new photo

Prince William and Princess Kate have shared a new previously unseen picture of their wedding day in celebration of their anniversary, however keen royal fans noticed the Prince underwent a wardrobe change.

In the black and white image, William is standing just behind his new bride Kate, resting his hand gently on the waist of her sumptuous Alexander McQueen wedding gown.

However, one royal fan posed the question on X: “Is he wearing a completely different uniform? Looks like the one he wore on Harry’s wedding day and not the red one he was wearing during the ceremony.”

Royal fan account Remoulade Sauce cleared up the confusion by answering: “Great catch! Did anyone else notice the uniform change? William originally wanted to wear his Irish Guards frock coat, which he had worn during previous royal engagements.

“However, he had been appointed Colonel of the Irish Guards two months before the wedding, and, as such, Her Majesty wanted him to wear the red tunic.”

The decision by William seemed to be popular with fans online, as one commented: “I am happy that he wore his red tunic for the ceremony, as comparisons to his brother on his own wedding day would have been all too common. Another masterful move by QE2!”

Another pointed out: “This photo is just beautiful, and yes it’s wonderful he had chance to wear the uniform he wanted to but at the same time still managed to totally respect the Queen’s wishes.

“That’s how a gentleman behaves. Love how he has his hand on her hip, such a natural way to pose.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales shared the picture on their social media to celebrate their wedding anniversary, with the caption: “13 years ago today!”

The image was taken by professional photographer Millie Pilkington, who has snapped the Royal Family several times over the years and was responsible for the latest picture of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

This new photo of Their Majesties was shared in celebration of the news that the King will soon be returning to public duties after his recent cancer treatments.

This latest release from Kate and William came as a welcome surprise, as they only usually share new snaps on significant wedding anniversaries – although they did release a throwback picture last year.

In 2023 they shared a more laidback image of them enjoying a bike ride in the countryside, stopping to pose together with their arms around each other.

The caption for last year’s snap was very similar to this year’s, stating: “12 years” with a love heart emoji.

There was no new picture in 2022, but in 2021 they marked their landmark ten year wedding anniversary with a new portrait.
