Drivers can protect their car from thieves by double locking and turning steering wheel

Many vehicles feature a double locking system, which prevents the vehicle from being unlocked by using the interior handles.

By activating this feature, thieves who breaking the windows in attempt to open the doors from the inside are unable to gain entry.

Turning the wheels so they face towards the curb can also prevent the vehicle from being stolen as it is more difficult for the criminal to drive away.

Motorists who are concerned that their car could be stolen when parked on a driveway at home were advised by Dan to invest in a security post, which typically costs around £70.

He added: “Consider installing a security post in your driveway as a physical barrier against theft, significantly reducing the risk of your vehicle being targeted.

“Installing and using a driveway security post adds another inconvenience to potential thieves. The more obstacles in the way for thieves the less likely they will target your car.”

Finally, Dan noted that drivers can also make the car’s identity more difficult for thieves to conceal, by etching the windows and removing the logbook from the vehicle.

He continued: “Etching your vehicles VIN or number plate details into multiple windows, increases the chance of recovery to 85 percent if your vehicle is stolen.

“Leaving your logbook in the car can make it more difficult for you to prove the ownership of the car. Getting a replacement will also cost you £25 from the DVLA, so its best kept at home.”
