Dr Shola wades into Princess Kate photo row and demands same apology for Meghan

Dr Shola has demanded an apology for Meghan Markle amid the row over Princess Kate’s edited family photo. Activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu took to social media on Monday (March 11) to ask why the Princess of Wales didn’t apologise via X, formerly Twitter, to clear up confusion over claims Kate made Meghan cry ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.

Dr Shola tweeted: “Under 24 hours and Kensington Palace tweets the Princess of Wales’ apology to clear up confusion because hers/Prince William’s credibility is at risk.

“So why didn’t Kate ever tweet an apology to clear up the confusion over the ‘Meghan made Kate cry’ lie which fed a global racist pile on against Meghan?”

The writer’s remarks came after the Princess of Wales personally apologised for the “confusion” over a digitally altered family photograph released by Kensington Palace to mark Mother’s Day.

Kate in a statement released on social media said: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C”.

The photograph of Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis was taken by the Prince of Wales.

It was the first to be issued since the princess’s planned abdominal surgery, but was withdrawn with a “Kill” notice by international picture agencies hours later because of suspicions it had been manipulated.

Royal sources said Princess Kate made “minor adjustments” and that both she and Prince William wanted to offer an informal picture of the family together for Mother’s Day.

Kensington Palace came under growing pressure over the debacle with the controversy branded “damaging” to the public’s trust in the Royal Family.

Concerns were raised over a missing part of Princess Charlotte’s sleeve and the misaligned edge of her skirt, with other speculation including the positioning of Kate’s zip.

Dr Shola’s question centres around claims and counter-claims that either Kate made Meghan cry or the Duchess of Sussex upset the Princess of Wales.

Tabloid stories had originally reported Meghan made Kate cry, but the Duchess claimed during the Sussexes’ interview with Oprah Winfrey that a disagreement over flower dresses made her cry and “really hurt” her feelings.

Meghan said she never wanted the row to emerge in the press and had been hurt by the media pinning the blame on her.

Prince Harry addresses the row in his memoir, Spare, where he claims Kate texted Meghan in the week running up to the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018 to say there was a problem with the fit of Princess Charlotte’s dress.

Harry writes that Kate told Meghan her daughter’s dress was too big, too long and baggy and that Charlotte had burst into tears when she tried it on.

The Duke says in Spare that while Meghan suggested alterations could be made, Kate insisted all the bridesmaids’ dresses had to be remade completely.

Kate relented, according to Harry, but the Duke found his then future wife on the floor in tears after the row. Harry writes that Kate apologised the next day with flowers and a card.
