Dog expert shares 'life-saving' food storage tip – but some owners aren't convinced

Storing your dog food incorrectly can not only spoil the quality of it, but it can also get your furry friend rather sick.

That’s why dog expert Rachel Fusaro, who often posts pup advice on TikTok, showed followers how to store pet food right.

In a video, she explained: “Bag size matters. Only get a size big enough that you can feed the entire bag within 30 days or less.

“This is to avoid fat rancidity, mould – remember oxidation happens once the bag is open.”

She advised: “Don’t forget the bag clip and remember that the original packaging was designed to preserve the nutrients in the food, so we never want to pour it out into something else.”

Another commented: “Umm I work at an animal hospital and we put our food in a container.”

One person shared a cautionary tale about why they always dispose of their dog food bags, saying: “I used to not dump my bag and then found maggots in a bag and now I always dump my bag.”

Another viewer offered some advice on using containers, warning: “Don’t forget the potential storage mites when using plastic containers! They can cause allergy flare-ups!”

However, one person seemed disheartened after watching the video, lamenting: “I really just can’t do anything right as a dog owner.”
