A cleaning guru has shared her simple method for making sure your dishes and glasses are streak-free when they come out of the dishwasher. Carolina McCauley shared the method she uses to get crockery and glasses dry, promising to leave no water marks.
In a recent TikTok video, Carolina revealed she uses a tea towel to achieve the desired effect. She wrote in the caption: “Tired of dishes coming out wet after the drying cycle? This simple towel hack helps absorb leftover moisture — and it actually works!”
Carolina demonstrated the hack by laying a tea towel over the dishwasher door, making sure a half the towel is left out of the appliance. Then close the door and leave the hack to work its magic.
Carolina’s video has already been viewed over 273,000 times, receiving 1,825 likes and 12 comments. Some people suggested using a rinse aid instead of a tea towel.
Roxy said: “I rinse them before adding to the dishwasher and leaving the dishwasher door open for only 10 minutes after the program is done and it solves it.”
Safire wrote: “Works perfectly for me, I’ve been using this method for years.”
Some experts have also warned about using a tea towel for drying dishes.
Petya Holevich, a cleaning expert at Fantastic Services, told Ideal Home: “The idea behind it is to use a dish towel to absorb the excess steam inside the dishwasher after the washing cycle is complete but your dishes aren’t dry.
“This happens because steam can prevent dishes from drying properly, and by placing a clean, dry dish towel on the dishwasher door while it’s still warm and steamy, the towel can absorb the moisture, helping to dry the dishes more effectively.”
However, the expert said that the hack could have a negative impact on the dishwasher itself.
She explained: “I’d highly advise against using this dishwasher drying hack and only resorting to it as a temporary solution. It could create a humid environment within your dishwasher, which may lead to mould or mildew problems over time.”
