Gerwyn Price has urged the PDC to ditch Rotterdam Ahoy as a Premier League Darts venue. The Welshman slammed the conditions and claimed they are not the same for both players after he was beaten by Nathan Aspinall in the quarter-final on Night 11.
Price lost 6-3 against Aspinall and seemed to suggest that The Asp had an advantage during their match. The 40-year-old wants the PDC to move away from Ahoy Rotterdam, which has hosted a Premier League night since 2016, and find a new venue.
Posting on his Instagram story, Price wrote: “Gutted for myself, gutted for everyone who supports me, I’m so sorry but this week was pointless and we move to next week. Darts were blowing everywhere and after leg one, which was lucky, I knew it [was] pointless. And where I was in the league after vital points it’s not what I wanted.
“Hopefully @officialpdc will now stop coming here and look for alternative venues. Not good for the players, not good for the fans, and not good for people that like a bet. Onto next week where we get to play in decent conditions.”
In a separate story, Price continued: “And if you think it’s the same for both players your [sic] as daft as you look.”
It was a frustrating night for Price, who struggled to get out of first gear. He averaged 94.19 compared to Aspinall’s 97.02.
The 2021 world champion was not the only player disappointed with a quarter-final exit. His defeat came after Luke Humphries was dumped out by Chris Dobey, also losing 6-3. Humphries recently complained about the packed schedule having an impact on his mental wellbeing and performances.
In the biggest surprise of Night 11’s quarter-finals, home favourite Michael van Gerwen was beaten by Stephen Bunting. The Dutchman had strong support from the crowd but fell to a 6-5 reverse.
Bunting was booed as he completed his victory. The 40-year-old has struggled this year and had not won a single match until Night Nine, when he used the momentum from his quarter-final success over Nathan Aspinall to win the entire event in Berlin. He had previously been facing breaking Peter Wright’s run of consecutive defeats in the Premier League.
