Disabled driver fined £70 after parking in bay with 'illegible' markings

A disabled driver has expressed his frustration after being fined for mistakenly parking in a loading bay with “completely illegible” markings.

Wayne Woolridge, 58, was hit with a £70 fine when he parked in what he believed was a disability space in Cannock, Staffs, on January 19. He claims the loading bay wasn’t clearly marked due to the faded lettering and lack of clear signage.

He said a traffic warden watched him display his blue badge before ticketing his car on Wolverhampton Road. The council rejected his appeal, stating the condition of the markings was due to “wear and tear”.

The Burntwood resident, who suffers from osteoporosis of the spine and four permanently fractured vertebrae, called the situation “a joke”, and added: “The markings are completely illegible, not just wear and tear. Instead of rejecting it straight away, they should have come to inspect it.”

“When I came back, I noticed a sign about 30 yards away in the opposite direction to the way I was walking.”
