Death in Paradise Ralf Little replacement 'sealed' as BBC legend drops huge hint

A huge BBC star has been tipped as the next lead detective on Death in Paradise. Viewers have been speculating who will be stepping in as the head of Saint Marie’s police force since Ralf Little’s departure.

The 44-year old made his debut as Detective Inspector Neville Parker in 2020, becoming the fourth actor to take on the crime drama’s lead role. Ralf announced he was stepping down from the role at the end of series 13 in March.

His replacement could be all but confirmed however, following John Cleese’s recent appearance on The One Show. The 84-year-old joined Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas on Tuesday’s instalment (April 30) of the BBC programme to discuss the stage adaptation of Fawlty Towers.

In the process, the Monty Python star let slip details about his new reboot of the classic sitcom which he is working on with his daughter Camilla Cleese.

He revealed they have changed location for the reboot, telling the presenters: “There’s no point in setting it in Torquay, we’ve done that.”

The comedian added: “So we’re going to set it in the Caribbean. There’s going to be much more stuff shot outside the hotel, and you’ve got all the water sports and all that kind of thing, so we work in all that.”

This has led fans to conclude that John could be joining the cast of Death in Paradise as the BBC programme is filmed in The Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean.

One social media user shared: “So on The One Show tonight, John Cleese said that there will be a new series of Fault Towers, but set in the Caribbean. Two points, 1) John Cleese as the new inspector. 2) Perhaps one of the guests gets murdered and the St Marie police investigate?”

A second responded: “Imagine if this was true.” A third user didn’t seem too convinced on the idea as they replied: “John Cleese is too old and his is a retired actor now.”

Other names tipped to replace Ralf include Harry Potter star Rupert Grint, Inbetweeners actor Simon Bird and Gavin and Stacey’s leading man Mathew Horne.

Fans haven’t held back on their opinions surrounding the new rumoured DI, with some claiming “no one would watch” if Rupert, 35, took on the role.
