Date with the crusher – scrapyard lets drivers add name of ex-partner before it is wrecked

The vehicle recycling price checker Scrap Car Comparison has announced an unusual way motorists are able to celebrate Valentine’s Day when writing off a vehicle.

As the most romantic day of the year looms, many drivers are thinking about both the good and bad relationships they have had, with the company offering to ‘scrap’ an ex-partner.

David Kottaun, Operations Manager of Scrap Car Comparison, noted that the ability to watch a car named after an ex getting scrapped could help drivers get over a tough time.

He explained: “Unfortunately, all of us will likely have been through a breakup at some point in our lives, and we realise how hard it can be to get over and move on.

“We hope that by providing this unique form of closure, symbolically scrapping an ex will help people to leave their heartbreak behind for good.”

The unconventional heartbreak antidote allows drivers to get the name of their ex-partner sprayed onto the side of a vehicle that is about to be scrapped.

Whilst they noted that the scrapyards are expecting high demand, those who manage to get their ex scrapped will receive a photo of the car in question being destroyed.

Scrap Car Comparison hope that, when looking at the image, it will help to scrap any bad memories drivers have of former partners.

According to the vehicle financing company LeaseLoco, the average car typically lasts between 11 and 14 years, with some diesels capable of up to 30 years.

Whilst, in good condition, a relationship can last a lifetime, VoucherCodesPro.co.uk noted that the average length is just two years and nine months.

As a result, the average driver goes through five relationships in the lifespan of their car, with some admitting to loving their vehicle more than their current partner.

Scrap Car Comparison advised heartbroken motorists that they have until Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, to put a name forward.

The opportunity is open to anyone around the world, and is free to enter for anyone over the age of 18 that can provide a reason why they want a car named after their ex.

The company noted that adding the names to the sides of the scrapyard vehicles helps to put the thousands of cars they scrap each month to good use.
