Dan Burn has revealed that he sustained a broken bone during Newcastle United’s 2-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest, but insists he won’t be joining some of his fellow Toon players in the medical room. The Blyth-born player was listed as a substitute for England’s 3-0 international win against Wales and was keen to feature at Wembley. However, he was reserved for England’s journey to Riga to compete against Latvia in the World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.
Burn was seen training with his hand bandaged at St George’s Park, but assured that it didn’t prevent him from playing against Craig Bellamy’s Wales. He also confirmed it won’t hinder him when he faces his former club Brighton and Hove Albion upon returning to domestic duties next Saturday.
Speaking to ChronicleLive, Burn said: “I actually broke my hand, I don’t even know how I did it, I think I went to grab someone and then I felt a crack. It was early in the second half so I went for the scan and I have seen a specialist.
“I’ve been told I can play with it. I am ready for Latvia, I am ready for Newcastle and I’d have been ready to play tonight.”
A severe injury to Burn would have been the last thing Newcastle needed, especially after losing Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall and Yoane Wissa to more long-term issues.
Burn stated: “I will not be missing any time for a broken hand! This is nothing, I have had worse injuries than this. I am ready to go and ready to play.
“Everybody is fighting for each other and the first half an hour I thought we were brilliant. It was really, really good. Now the thing for us is to keep that going all game. At 3-0 up we probably took our foot off the gas a little bit.
“We now look forward to the World Cup qualifier in Latvia now.”
