The dream of stepping out of a steamy shower or tub and into a soft, fluffy towel can quickly turn into a nightmare when towels become stiff and abrasive. Over time, the plushness of towels diminishes due to the accumulation of detergent remnants and body oils in the fabric. Cheryl Curristin shared her revelation on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, stating: “Just tried the white vinegar extra rinse after washing my towels. I was very sceptical and thought they would smell of vinegar, but it’s the best way to make towels fluffy.
“Two lovely, clean, and fluffy towels are now drying on the line, and they smell amazing.” Indeed, white vinegar is adept at removing any lingering residue and fabric softener, which contributes significantly to towel softening.
Thanks to its acetic acid content, this affordable 30p household staple proves to be an excellent addition to your laundry regime, reports Express.co.uk.
Cheryl noted that she omitted fabric conditioner “deliberately” to test its impact.
She enthused: “It’s so much better, so soft and fluffy, I can’t believe it.
“Definitely will be doing this every time for my towels now. I can’t believe I’ve only just tried this at the age of 64.”
How to use white vinegar to wash towels
To get the benefits of white vinegar in your own towel laundering, pop your towels into the machine with a regular detergent pod.
Once the initial wash cycle concludes, pour white vinegar into the fabric softener compartment for an additional rinse.
Jill Adams echoed the sentiment, remarking: “Totally agree. Always use white vinegar in my machine instead of conditioner.
“It works great and keeps the machine sparkling clean at the same time, no smell after is a big bonus.”
Luna Glover commented: “This completely transformed my towels, it’s so cheap too. Would recommend to anyone.”
You can grab a bottle of white vinegar for a mere 30p in supermarkets like Tesco.
