Going on a cruise is a like a floating resort, with everything from relaxation to entertainment and activities to fine dining. For those hitting the high seas, holidaymakers may be wondering what clothes and outfits are appropriate to wear for each offer on board the ship.

A cruise ship guru has divulged essential attire tips for those embarking on a cruise, emphasising two key dress codes to note. In his TikTok video, Tim from cruiseshiptipsandchat, advised that cruisers often need to switch between “evening casual” and “black tie” when opting to dine in the ship’s more formal eateries. Gentlemen should gear up in long trousers teamed with a collared or polo shirt for an evening casual look, whereas the ladies may wish to don cocktail dresses or similar sophisticated ensembles.

Certain cruises designate one or two evenings as black tie affairs, calling for gents to sport suits and bowties and ladies to grace the scene in evening gowns or floor-length dresses.

It’s crucial to investigate the dress code policies before embarking on your cruise journey, as they can vary.

However, Tim points out that not all on-board dining requires such formality; the buffet, for instance, allows patrons to bypass strict attire rules.

Those seeking a laid-back meal might prefer the buffet over traditional restaurants, but do remember there’s etiquette to follow even here.

James Cole, founder of Panache Cruises, offered a word of wisdom.

He said: “Although you may be hungry and eager to head to the buffet, remember that your fellow passengers are likely feeling the same way, and your wants and needs don’t supersede theirs.”

He advises holidaymakers to be patient while waiting your turn in line and suggests having a snack between meals if hunger becomes too pressing to postpone.

Another buffet blunder is consuming food while still queuing. It’s best to wait until you’re seated before starting to eat, avoiding consumption while in line.
