Crisps recalled in urgent food warning – people with these 2 allergies affected

Pita chips made by Ottolenghi Ltd are being recalled from customers because they contain celery and mustard not mentioned on the label. A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency warned the product was therefore “a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to celery or mustard”.

Allergies to celery and mustard are thought to be rare in the UK but can trigger serious reactions. The notice added: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to celery or mustard, do not eat it.”

It continued: “Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund (with or without a receipt).”

The recall applies to Vadouvan Pita Chips in a 150g pack, with the batch codes 290525 and 300525. Affected products have best before dates of May 28, 29 and 30, all in 2025.

The food brand is led by Yotam Assaf Ottolenghi, an Israeli-born British chef, restaurateur, and food writer.

Vadouvan spiced pita chips can be bought from Ottolenghi’s website for £6.30.

They are described as “thin and crispy…the perfect vehicle for your favourite dips”.

Common symptoms of food allergies include itching of the mouth, throat or lips, hives, stomach pain, nausea or vomiting.

More serious cases can trigger anaphylaxis, which requires immediate medical attention.

The notice added: “Ottolenghi is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.”
