Couple buy entire abandoned Spanish village for just £289,000

A Dutch couple has managed to buy an entire abandoned Spanish village, Bárcena de Bureba, for just £289,000. The village, located near Burgos, includes 64 mostly rundown houses spread over six hectares of land.

The deal was finalised before last summer, but news of the purchase is just surfacing. Aldeas Abandonadas Real Estate, the agency overseeing the sale, noted the uncommon speed at which the transaction occurred.

Originally listed at £447,500 (€525,000), the couple successfully negotiated the price down to €339,000. They plan to turn the forgotten village into an eco-friendly haven.
