Costa, Caffe Nero and Starbucks' top 5 calorific Christmas drinks to avoid for weight loss

Here are the five drinks holding the most calories, along with some expert recommendations to lighten the blow.

5. Sticky Toffee Latte (Costa)

Calories: 341

Costa’s Sticky Toffee Latte, with 341 calories, comes in at fifth.

It’s layered with sticky toffee-flavoured sauce, topped with light whip, and drizzled with sauce and sprinkled with bronze shimmer dust.

4. Oleato Gingerbread Oatmilk Latte (Starbucks)

Calories: 350

In at number four, the New Oleato Gingerbread Oatmilk Latte from Starbucks boasts extra virgin olive oil-infused espresso, steamed oat milk, and gingerbread-flavored syrup and sets you back 350 calories.

Dietitian Karine Patel recommends opting for a shorter size. Additionally, asking for fewer gingerbread syrup shots can trim down the calorie and sugar content.

3. Iced Gingerbread Oatmilk Chai (Starbucks)

Calories: 360

The Oleato’s iced counterpart ranks third.

Nutritionist Aliza Marogy suggests it might be one of the better choices on the holiday menu.

However, she flags concerns about the preservative sodium benzoate, urging consumers to opt for fewer pumps of gingerbread-flavoured syrup and consider switching to full-fat dairy for a healthier alternative.

2. Caramel Brulée Latte (Starbucks)

Calories: 410

A close second, with 410 calories, the Caramel Brulée Latte from Starbucks offers a blend of espresso, steamed milk, caramel brulée sauce, and whipped cream.

Opting for nonfat milk, skipping the caramel brulée topping, and a shorter serving size can all contribute to a healthier sip.

1. Florentine Mocha (Caffè Nero)

Calories: 448

It’s Caffè Nero’s Florentine Mocha that takes the top spot with a hefty 448 calories. Espresso, rich chocolate, salted caramel syrup, festive panettone syrup, steamed milk, topped with whipped cream, and chocolate chips – it is the undisputed champion of holiday indulgence.

Pair it with a Starbucks Blueberry Muffin (394 calories), and you’re edging towards the 1,000-calorie mark.

Whether you opt for Starbucks, Caffè Nero, or Costa, choosing an alternative milk, being mindful of syrups and creams, and sizing down means you can indulge smarter.
