Coronation Street fans spot major error as Maria Connor confronts Gary Windass

Coronation Street viewers were all left wondering the same thing on Monday night after Maria Connor (played by Samia Longchambon) confronted Gary Windass (Mikey North) on his whereabouts.

During the episode, fans of the ITV soap saw Liam Connor’s (Charlie Wrenshall) mental health continue to take a toll after months of being bullied by Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan). Whilst at Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) house he decided to have a rummage in the cupboard for some sweets.

When he stumbled across Paul’s diazepam pills, Liam decided to take them with him. Later on, when he was home alone, the teen started to feel a panic attack coming on and took the medication.

However, after taking too many he was found unconscious by his mum and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and was quickly rushed to the hospital. Frantic with panic, Maria was desperately trying to call her partner Gary.

Although unbeknownst to her, Gary was enjoying some time at his former flame Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) flat. While they drank wine and spoke about their issues, Gary decided to ignore Maria’s calls, not knowing the seriousness of the situation unfolding.

After a while, he finally decided to answer and rushed out of the flat to make his way to the hospital.

Demanding to know where he was and why he wasn’t answering, Gary lied to Maria and told her he’d left his phone in the van while doing something else.

However, viewers were quick to highlight one thing that would’ve given away his true whereabouts that Maria seemed to have missed.

Taking to Twitter, @spartacus2963 said: “It’s a mystery why Maria can’t smell the alcohol on Gary’s breath…”

@pam_debeauvoir asked: “Surely Maria can smell drink on Gary’s breath…or maybe she can smell his bull***t instead.”

@ChrisHydeCoope1 added: “Gazza breathing wine fumes all over dopey Maria!!”

@GrocottJanice tweeted: “Ooo Gary Maria won’t be happy when she smells wine on your breath #Corrie”

With @LeroyStHillwell commenting: “Gary you smell of wine and desperation.”

Although Gary embraced Maria in a huge hug at the end of the episode while she broke down in tears over fears for her son, fans believe Gary’s head could be turning.

He and Sarah have been growing close over the past few weeks, with her trying to kiss him after having a heart-to-heart.

Despite shutting her down, it’s clear Gary can’t seem to stay away from his former flame.

Will they rekindle their romance once again leaving Maria heartbroken?

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
