A British nan’s dream holiday to Corfu fell flat after being less than impressed with the lack of English grub on offer. Nestled on the picturesque eastern coast of Greece’s famed island lies Lido Corfu Sun Hotel, which hit the headlines after Susan Edwards condemned her ‘nightmare’ getaway arranged via TUI.
The 69-year-old claimed an absence of palatable options with gripes about a shortage of chips leading her to be ”’sick to death of looking at rice” with there being nothing for her to eat and drink. Susan told Chronicle Live: “There was no food we could eat and we couldn’t have anything to drink. We had to pay €1.50 for water.”
Since then, the hotel’s boss has rushed to defend their menu, describing it as “generous and diverse” with daily offerings of fresh salads, fruits, and hot and cold dishes.
Now, loyal guests are flocking to Tripadvisor and Google Reviews to stick up for their favourite hotel and rebut Ms Edwards’ disparaging comments.
One was so annoyed they wrote their debut Tripadvisor critique just to slag off other holidaymakers as “pathetic chavs”.
Their angry review stated: “Don’t listen to pathetic chavvy Brits and Poles who bought the cheapest ‘all inclusive’ package in existence and demanded type of service only the most entitled and uncouth would. It’s a fine, charming little place. Close to water, nice food and clean facilities. Thankfully, no British food!”
Another reviewer also left a subtle dig to Ms Edwards’ complaints, insisting the Greek food is delicious and the hotel is “phenomenal”.
Their review read: “Phenomenal hotel, very comfortable and well located for a relaxing holiday, we are regular visitors. Excellent all inclusive food and drink package, they really go out their way to cater for Scottish visitors.
“We enjoyed draught Tennent’s lager, Irn Bru was on tap (diet and full fat), square sausage on a roll at breakfast, scotch pies and bridies at lunchtime, and there was always a choice of haggis or mince ‘n tatties at dinner.
“Tunnock’s tea cakes and shortbread were available all day, along with Scottish Blend tea. The staff are lovely and cannot do enough for you. The Greek dishes are also immense, which is a bonus, as Corfu is in Greece.”
And it seem’s Susan’s terrible review is in the minority as the majority of guests on Google Reviews rated Lido Corfu Sun Hotel as five stars out of five.
