‘Coolest seaside town’ with white beaches loved by celebs and tourists | UK | Travel

The North East, known for its stunning scenery, brilliant beaches, top-notch food and drink, and welcoming atmosphere, has always been home to stunning landscapes.

Now, Tynemouth, a seaside town in the region, has been named the ‘coolest’ in the UK by Time Out magazine.

The publication included Tynemouth in its list of the best 20 seaside destinations in the UK, praising it for its chilled vibes and saying: “Britain’s coolest seaside town? Could be.”

The author lauded Tynemouth for merging artisan city cool with wholesome coastal pursuits into the “perfect salty, seaside package”.

The town is home to King Edward’s Bay and the highly rated Long Sands Beach, both popular throughout the year.

It also boasts stunning architecture, gorgeous houses overlooking the North Sea, and plenty of places to relax and unwind with hearty grub, a few drinks, and live music.

Tynemouth Priory, a historic site in North East England, is not just known for its rich history but also as the annual host of the Mouth of the Tyne festival.

Over the years, the event has seen performances from local music icons such as Sam Fender and Andrew Cushin, as well as other big names like Rick Astley, The Proclaimers, Jack Savoretti and Heather Small, reports Chronicle Live.

But it’s not just musicians who are drawn to Tynemouth; the cast of ITV’s hit crime drama ‘Vera’ have spent considerable time there during the show’s 14-year run.

Even stars from Strictly Come Dancing have been spotted enjoying the coastal town before dining at Crusoe’s.

Food critics too have praised local eatery Riley’s Fish Shack, with endorsements from Michel Roux Jr, Rick Stein and Jay Rayner.

The Time Out entry said: “Eight miles outside of Newcastle, Tynemouth manages to perfectly merge artisan city cool and wholesome coastal pursuits into the perfect salty, seaside package.

“Its three white sandy beaches are overlooked by a ruined priory and castle; a working lighthouse stands at the tip of its craggy headland; and it has a period high street crammed with traditional pubs and fish and chip shops.”

It continued: “Alongside all this, however, you’ll find tooth-achingly cool small-batch artisan roasteries like Tynemouth Coffee Company, forward-thinking restaurants, quirky bars and craft beer spots, a thriving surfing community and designer-maker emporiums.”

The town features alongside a number of popular seaside destinations and some lesser-known gems on the list.

Also named are the likes of Brighton, Crosby in Merseyside and the popular St Ives in Cornwall.
