'Common' Christmas Day habit 'banned' for the royals as King Charles 'not fond of it'

The Royal Family like to gather at Sandringham every year to celebrate Christmas and usually, their schedule is jam-packed with festive activities.

From lavish dinners to Boxing Day hunts, the royals get up to all sorts of stuff while in Norfolk. But there is one particular past-time, that most of us would usually associate with Christmas, that is reportedly banned in Sandringham as King Charles is said to not approve of it.

And that is watching television. Apart from watching the monarch’s speech on Christmas Day together, the royals are not usually to be found chilling out on the sofa, but they instead opt to spend time outdoors, according to a royal expert.

Jennie Bond told The Sun: “Christmas is a time of togetherness and for Charles, I imagine he would see this as a rare and wonderful day when the family can all be together. There is a lot in place for the day, including church and formal meals.”

She added that the family loves to “soak up the outdoors” because King Charles is not a “big fan” of watching television. It may even be viewed as “rude” to watch TV instead of throwing oneself into the Christmas festivities, the royal expert claimed.

It comes as another royal expert claimed the late Queen Elizabeth would not even sit down to watch her own Christmas broadcast and would go outdoors instead.

Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell revealed that Elizabeth would take the dogs out during her speech.

He said: “They do sit down and watch the King’s speech [on Christmas Day] as well. During the Queen’s speech the Queen would say ‘no, I’m not going to sit and watch it’ and she would take the dogs out while the rest of the family would watch.”
