Cleaning expert's £2 supermarket staple 'neutralises nasty smells' in bathrooms

There’s an undeniable sense of achievement in beholding a spotless bathroom after dedicating your Sunday morning to making it shine.

Yet, the triumph is short-lived as unwanted odours inevitably return, swiftly washing away the aroma of bleach and disinfectant.

Fortunately, a cleaning aficionado has divulged her foolproof method to ensure your loo maintains its freshness for an extended period – and it will only cost you £2 or less. Chances are, you’ve already got the item in your kitchen cupboard.

Lemons are celebrated in the cleaning world for their citrusy fragrance and antibacterial qualities.

Lynsey Crombie, also known as The Queen of Clean on Instagram, endorses lemons as an excellent solution for limescale and stubborn water stains. They not only remove unsightly water deposits but leave behind a pleasant fragrance in your bathroom.

However, when it comes to combatting persistent smells, baking soda is the hero you need, reports the Mirror.

“Baking soda also has natural deodorising properties so it not only smells good but can soak up and absorb bad odours,” declared Nancy Emery, a cleaning expert from Tap Warehouse.

“Using this in your toilet bowl is great for neutralising nasty smells.”

Emery suggests another neat trick involving baking soda as a “homemade diffuser” to keep your bathroom smelling fresh. “Remember to replace the baking soda once a week,” she wisely added.

Baking soda can be bought from most supermarkets for around £2 but there’s likely a tub sat at the back of your kitchen cupboard.

Lemons are also relatively affordable and can be found in most supermarkets, greengrocers and online.
