Christmas 'ruined' after Sainsbury's 'cancels Turkey and sends sliced ham'

A Sainsbury’s customer has slammed the supermarket giant after they claimed their turkey crown was “cancelled” and ham joint substituted with slices. The furious shopper vented their frustration on X, writing on the platform: “@sainsburys cancelling my turkey crown (pre ordered on December 3) on Christmas Eve and also the ham joint but replacing it with four ham slices.

“Absolutely appalling”.

The X user, tweeting from an account named Jack Rice, shared an alleged screenshot of the message from Sainsbury’s detailing his order on Christmas Eve. It appears to show their 900g British ham joint priced at £10 substituted with two packets of Yorkshire cured ham slices.

It also shows the customer’s order for a £9 Sainsbury’s medium fresh British turkey crown was unavailable and there was no substitute.

Within two minutes of the tweet appearing, a Sainsbury’s customer complaint handler responded with an apology and offer of help.

Some X users replied to the original tweet, with one describing the prospect of eating a ham sandwich instead of Christmas dinner as “crazy”.

But others said they had no sympathy. X user, Chris, wrote in reply: “Sorry but no sympathy. It’s Christmas Eve, you always run the risk of stores selling out before then if you leave it this late.”

Fellow X user, Peter Bowden, wrote: “They haven’t cancelled anything, they don’t have any stock.

“It’s worth being aware that online orders are picked the night before delivery, however long ago they were ordered, so you can never guarantee you’ll get your order.”

Sainsbury’s has been approached for comment.
