Carol Vorderman vows to 'take on' Shaun Bailey and says she will 'carry on straying'

Presenter Carol Vorderman has hit back at Shaun Bailey after derogatory comments he made on GB News about her last week.

“On one hand, she’s a serious political commentator, and then if you look at her Instagram, it’s all pictures of her bum and her boobs. What is it? She can’t be both,” he said at the time.

He later claimed it was a “clumsy form of words” which Vorderman dismissed. Writing for The Standard, she called the Conservative candidate a “bully”. She said: “Shaun Bailey is a misogynist. Not only that, he’s a coward.

“You see ‘misogynist’ is just a fancy noun for ‘someone who bullies women’ and all bullies, as we know, are ultimately cowards.”

Vorderman has been outspoken about her opposition to the current goverment on social media. Lord Bailey’s political career has included a number of failed attempts to get elected to parliament. He also worked for the government under David Cameron as an adviser.

Vorderman added: “They just can’t cope with the fact that a woman of almost pensionable age (with the mighty resource of her iPhone) won’t get back in her box and is highlighting, with evidence and data, the corruption and mistruths told by this Government. They just don’t like it at all, so they go on the group attack.

“Perish the thought that a ‘celebrity’ (all encompassing noun there) dare stray from what they perceive as her narrow lane. Well, tough — I’ve strayed and I’ll carry on straying.”

In 2015, Lord Bailey was elected to the London Assembly, and in 2019 he was selected to be the Tory’s candidate to run against Sadiq Khan in the next mayoral election in the capital.

It’s not the first time Lord Bailey has stirred controversy. In 2023, he apologised after a video of his staff during lockdown emerged.

During his mayoral campaign, they were seen dancing with each other and ignoring social distancing rules that were in place at the time.

The gathering – which took place on December 14, 2020 when London was in Tier 2 of COVID lockdown – was attended by Lord Bailey.

One of those who voiced support for Vorderman on X was the Labour MP Carolyn Harris. She said: “What is it with Tory men having a go at vodders. They really must feel threatened to stoop this low. All power to Carol and the girls.”
