'By far the best' solution for removing limescale from toilets for a 'pearly white' bowl

Toilet limescale is incredibly difficult to remove, especially if it’s ingrained in the porcelain.

Limescale in toilets is caused by dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium in water getting left behind in the toilet bowl.

Over time, the minerals build up and cause unsightly reddish, brown and green stains as well as scaling.

There are lots of chemical methods for removing toilet limescale but these can be costly and pungent-smelling.

With this in mind, Express.co.uk spoke to two cleaning experts about how to remove toilet limescale both using natural and chemical methods.

Polya Petrova, a kitchen cleaning professional at Fantastic Services, has shared their advice for removing limescale from toilet bowls.

The cleaning expert said: “A good solution for cleaning limescale is using a vinegar and citrus mixture, with which you can soak the affected areas.

“The combination of these ingredients with water and white vinegar will help to remove limescale.

“After you’ve applied to the affected areas, let it sit for an hour, then scrub and rinse.

“You can also remove limescale with lemon juice by applying it directly on the limescale and leaving it on for 15-20 minutes. Afterwards, scrub and rinse.”

However, Cynthia Ewers-Cobb, founder of Green Eco Lifestyle, suggested using an acid-based product.

She said: “For toilet limescale you need to use an acid based product to counteract the limescale.

“The best solution is brick acid. It leaves your toilet pearly white. I’ve tried lots of other products and this is by far the best!”

White vinegar and citrus can be bought online or from local supermarkets. Sainsbury’s distilled vinegar costs 40p and Tesco distilled vinegar costs 35p.

Lemon juice costs 80p from Sainsbury’s and 75p from Asda. Brick acid can be bought from eFix for £5.64 and Toolstation for £14.99.
